Description
Included is President George W. Bush’s Address to the Nation from September 11, 2001 and close reading questions that directly relate to the passage. Teachers can use this activity to commemorate the tragedy of September 11th as well as give their students practice with textual evidence and context clues. Students will need to ultimately determine author’s purpose and explain their answer. You could also have students watch the video of Bush’s speech after the reading to compare and contrast the impact of the text across different mediums. This product uses strategies like RAFT and PIE to analyze nonfiction texts and find author’s purpose.
